NEPC: “We Are Committed to Equipping Nigerian Exporters for Global Success”

NEPC: “We Are Committed to Equipping Nigerian Exporters for Global Success”

The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has reaffirmed its dedication to empowering domestic exporters by ensuring they have the the knowledge, tools, and support needed to compete effectively in international markets.

Export Growth in 2025 & Challenges Ahead

In the first half of 2025, Nigeria’s non-oil export earnings reached about $3.225 billion, marking an approximate 19.6% increase over the previous year—up from $2.696 billion in the same period of 2024.

Despite this growth, many exporters still struggle with high production costs, cumbersome duty and tax burdens, and lack of access to trade facilitation skills and market intelligence.

NEPC’s Strategy to Strengthen Export Capacity

To address these challenges, NEPC plans to adopt several approaches:

1. Training & Capacity Building

NEPC pledges to undertake efforts that enable exporters to understand trade agreements, comply with international norms, and adopt best practices in logistics, documentation, and market access.

2. Policy Advocacy & Incentives

The council continues to push for incentives, improved regulatory frameworks, and streamlined export procedures to lessen exporters’ operational burdens and attract greater participation.

Implications for Imports and Exports Stakeholders

While NEPC’s mandate is export promotion, the ripple effects of stronger export systems touch closely on imports

More robust exporting capability boosts foreign exchange inflows, potentially stabilizing the cost base for shipping goods in Nigeria and the pricing of imported inputs.

Exporters who are trained in documentation, compliance, and logistics standards will place stricter demands on efficient customs cargo clearance—benefitting the entire logistics chain.

NEPC’s renewed focus on equipping Nigerian exporters reflects a strategic push to solidify Nigeria’s position in global trade. By building capacitmoting trade agreements, and advocating for enabling policies, the council aims to expand export growth while indirectly strengthening Nigeria’s entire import-export ecosystem.
